Last month we discussed How to survive our new economy. This month I will discuss How a senior citizen views the Millenniums:

As a senior citizen, I feel like I am on the outside looking in and what I see astounds me. I truly can’t understand why young people are mutilating their bodies by:

  1. Multiple piercing. Earrings are okay, but who likes looking at wire thingies in their noses, lips, eyebrows and even their tongues. Lord knows where else on their bodies they are hidden.
  2. Tats! Cute little ones that are not easily visible are okay. But young people are painting their bodies with ink – much of it abhorrent to much of society. Why women would mar their beauty by making themselves a billboard that will last their lifetime is beyond me. How do they expect to get a job when they are a billboard for an unusual lifestyle? What are they going to look like when they are seniors?
  3. Mullets! Why would a man wear a mullet or a man bun? Long hair on men in this climate is only going to make them sweat more.
  4. Phones! Why do young people have umbilical cords attaching them to their mobile phones? They’re either texting or talking on that phone. Many never look up from their phones as they walk and bump into others and some even walk across a street still concentrating on their phones instead of watching traffic. What happened to normal face to face conversation? Most are so used to using texting words that they can’t compose a decent sentence. RUOK? They don’t know how to write “Are you okay?” That’s why they’re failing spelling and grammar at school and businesses find it difficult to find younger people who can write an essay without several spelling and grammatical errors.
  5. Overweight! Some are athletic, but many of them are ‘couch potatoes’ – overweight, good candidates for diabetes and later an early death from heart attacks. These overweight individuals take up 1 ½ seats on a bus, train, and plane to the discomfort of their seatmates.
  6. Most youth offenders still get a slap on the wrist for serious offences up to and including murder. They are still able to buy knives (folding knives, double knives, hunting knives) that should be banned from anyone buying unless they sign for them the same as they would for a firearm. What is causing so much anger for these young people to act the way they do against society?
  7. If they have a record, they will not be able to travel internationally.
  8. How they perform in school will affect their ability to obtain a job. Employers will check their school record because many students do not have work references.
