Last month we discussed four of Roberta Cava’s Dealing with Difficult People series of books. This month she will be discussing the abortion and patient euthanasia situations in Queensland, Australia.

Roberta Cava was born in Canada but has lived in Australia for over 25 years. She is concerned at how far behind Canada Australia is about two serious issues.

Abortion has been legal in Canada since 1969 and the ‘day after conception’ pill was approved as early as the 1970s.

Queensland women were able to obtain an abortion after December 3rd, 2018, but the ‘day after conception’ pill was still banned. One of the candidates in the upcoming Queensland election says he will ensure that abortion is again banned. Queensland still requires doctors’ assessments for abortions to be considered legal.

In Canada, euthanasia was made legal in June 2016. On January 1st, 2023, voluntary assisted dying (VAD or the right to be euthanized) was passed in Queensland. This too could be stopped by one of the candidates for premiership of Queensland.

Queenslanders need to be aware of this before they vote on October 26th.
